Make-up shaming..the ugly side of being a beauty lover.

Makeup shaming is making someone feel bad or guilty for wearing or enjoying makeup. Typically women are judged for trying too hard, or not trying hard can we win!?

Society sets impossible beauty standards for women, these standards have been heightened in recent times with social media. The perfection that was once so distant in glossy magazines, now seems normal with thousands of amazingly beautiful women given the platform to be seen. But what if (god forbid) you don’t “wake up like dissss”?

Lately trends have been praising ‘natural beauty’ and this is fantastic..if you are a natural beauty. The women that are lucky enough to be born this way or rich enough to become this way are seen as wholesome, less shallow and more “honest” by both men and women.

Leaving women that wear a little make-up (or a lot, you do you gurl or boy 😉 ) perceived as people that are high maintenance and insecure. We feel bad if we don’t fit the definition of typical beauty and guilty if we try to meet these same expectations.

In two minutes i can pop on some mascara and concealer and feel 1000% better about myself. Then BAM a comment from a family member or friend “you’re putting mascara on?! but we are just going to the shops” or the “You don’t need any make-up, you look fineee”. Yes i know i look fine, but quite frankly i can look better so I’m going to.

Whether we like it or not humans are judged based on appearances, first impressions are often visual. Make-up can provide an even skin tone to a person that suffers from severe acne, instead of them staying at home feeling depressed it frees them to in fact be themselves and have confidence.

One of the main trends that comes up on the subject of make-up shaming is pictures of women before and after make-up (examples below) posted by men with the comments “this is why i have trust issues” or “this is why you take a female swimming on your first date”. What these men don’t understand is “this” is not for you..and as one very eloquent and anonymous woman put it “I don’t see why i’m being blamed for a man being stupid enough to think i have sparkly gold eyelids”.

Make-up is not worn to trick or lie to people, it does however give many people the chance to be their true self that isn’t held back by the fear of being judged on a visual first impression. It creates an equal chance for their inner beauty to be seen.

So the moral of the story is, if you have been make-up shamed..screw the haters. Do what makes YOU happy and confident, if someone judges you thats their problem not yours.

On the other hand if you have make-up shamed or judged..SCREW YOU!..just kidding.  What i meant to say was next time you go to judge someone take into consideration that wearing make-up doesn’t harm anyone,  if it makes someone happy then you should encourage them to be their best selves.

Holiday Lips!

Hey y’all!

I found the perfect product for bright holiday lips! If you (like me) are bad at keeping lipstick neat and tidy Lipstains are perfect for you. I love having bright lips, but when I am working, eating or socialising lipstick staying in place is the LAST thing I want to worry about.

The other day while I was taking my frequent (and quite frankly therapeutic) stroll down the makeup isle of Priceline I found these Lipstains by Savvy..they are only $8.99 and come in amazingly bright colours and they actually stay on for ages then fade away nicely and I love them! That’s pretty much is a picture of me wearing the shade watermelon 🙂 xxx

Happy Holidays!

How to get the best from your foundation!

Hey guys!

Now we have gone through this journey of finding your perfect foundation we need to ensure it’s applied in a way that will benefit you most!

There are many different ways of applying foundation the main ones being sponges, brushes and my personal favourite fingers. Fingers warm up the product and this gives a more natural look when it’s being applied, I also hate wasting product and I find that I go through foundation quicker because brushes and sponges absorb more. When it comes to my clients I use brushes because they are more hygienic than fingers. However I use my fingers for things such as concealer (just remember If you are going to use your fingers always have freshly washed hands and use hand sanitiser immediately before touching someone’s face!)

In this video I am going to take you through the most popular foundation tools and give you an easy intro on how to use them, I have written a description down below but there is more detail in the video and it helps to see the techniques 🙂

– Put foundation on back of hand pat your fingers into foundation
– Dab foundation onto the face in areas you most need it (not blending)
– Use your fingers to massage this in almost like a moisturiser
– Feather out at edges, less is more I try and put only minimal to no foundation on places where I don’t need coverage.

Sponge –

If you are using a sponge like the popular Beauty Blender be sure it’s damp, this is the way it was designed to be used and will absorb to much product if it’s not.

– Dampen sponge (not so it’s dripping just so it’s nice and fat 🙂 )
– Put foundation of back of hand
– Dip your sponge in foundation and stipple onto face, stipple is a makeup term that basically means bouncing softly onto the face (definitely see video for this one)

The flat foundation brush-

– Put foundation on back of hand
– Dip in foundation (do not over load the brush)
– Brush onto face starting at the centre of the face
– Feather it out at the hair line to avoid streaks
– Blend in with fingers or pat over with brush (technique in video)

Kabuki Brushes –

If applying mineral powder foundation you want to use a kabuki brush. Kabuki brushes are more dense than normal powder brushes therefore they pick up more product so when applied it’s gives better coverage

Buffing brushes/fibre optic brushes –

If you have been doing these techniques with these tools and are not happy with the result and the makeup is still sitting on your skin you can use brushes like these ones to buff over the foundation once applied.

Thanks for reading/watching! I hope you guys enjoyed the foundation series, please be sure to subscribe to my youtube channel ” Katy Clucas ” for more videos 🙂
